Social Action is an important element of synagogue life at Congregation Beth Shalom. Originating in Mishnaic and Talmudic writings, the term Tikkun Olam has come to mean the act of making a positive contribution to the world. CBS continues to be a force for good, performing mitzvot and actively working to ensure the welfare of our congregants and our community. From volunteering at the local Sova Food Bank to adding our collective voices for Israel Advocacy, CBS is committed to social action close to home and close to the heart.
“Transforming the lives of homeless families. Because every child deserves a home.”
This is the purpose of Family Promise and, in turn, the promise that
Congregation Beth Shalom has made to our community. CBS has embraced this national, interfaith organization and its mission to help homeless families get off the street and back on their feet. By regularly partnering with Family Promise, we provide temporary housing and meals for the families we host. The ultimate goal is to help them graduate from the program and achieve personal independence.
Life Happens. And when it happens to you, your family members or others in the CBS Community, Mitzvah Corps is there to help. Assisting with daily needs like meals and local rides is one way Mitzvah Corps gets involved. From providing transportation to and from doctor appointments, visiting the infirmed or ensuring a minyan at shiva sittings, Mitzvah C

In simplest terms, Scrip is a Gift Card program. By partnering with major retailers such as Starbucks, Ralphs and other popular retail destinations, family members are able to offset their annual pledges and, at the same time, provide important fundraising for CBS.
There is no additional cost to purchase gift cards from CBS; you pay face value. This kind of win-win proposition is an easy, pain-free way to reduce your pledge totals while allowing us to continue bringing exciting programs – such as Speaker’s Series and the CBS Film Festival – to CBS. All while continuing to shop at retailers you already patronize.
Our Scrip partners and their percent contributions change all the time. If you have a favorite merchant that we are not currently listed, please let us know. Contact Robin Ceppi and start making use of Scrip today, for yourselves and for CBS!
Please contact the CBS Office regarding the Scrip program.

Enjoy dining out and socializing with family, friends or other CBS congregants as you help raise money for CBS through our monthly Dining for Dollars fundraising program. Each month our congregants look forward to dining at a different local restaurant which donates a percentage of our total food purchases back to CBS. For families with young children, most restaurants also offer the option for take- out. Congregants simply present a flyer to the cashier or server for CBS to get credit for their food purchase.
Please download the flyer from the weekly eblast or pick up a pre-printed flyer in the CBS lobby. We look forward to seeing you at our Dining for Dollars fundraising events.
